Concrete Coatings

Concrete resurfacing is a great way for you to make old, worn or damaged concrete look beautiful and new again. There are several different options available to you when it comes to planning or beginning a concrete resurfacing project, so you should explore various avenues before beginning. If improving the look of your concrete is the goal of your project, conventional wisdom typically holds that old concrete which has cracks, surface imperfections or any sort of discoloration must be replaced completely. Many homeowners are discouraged by the state of their cement flooring, or other concrete areas in or around their home, not really realizing that there are a great number of options available to them when it comes to completely updating the look and the strength of their already-existing concrete.

A viable way to improve concrete surfaces which already exist is to resurface the concrete with a polymer-modified overlay system. Resurfacing concrete can range from simply making it look new again, or completely upgrading the surface with the use of colors and patterns. It does not matter if you are resurfacing a concrete driveway, a cement floor, a garage floor, or a patio, the options which are available to you will let you transform old and sometimes ugly concrete into something that is new, smooth and beautifully colored instead. Resurfacing tends to run between $3 and $7 for every square foot, but the costs range widely on the size and detail of the project. The more elaborate surface styles will generally cost more than a simple repair and resurface.

Resurfacing concrete tends to be an extremely popular project for home owner’s, because it allows them to create a brand new surface for a fraction of the cost of what completely redoing the concrete would otherwise cost. This concrete resurfacing concept is not a new one, it is simply gaining popularity over time, especially when it comes to public highways and commercial resurfacing work. There are many public roads and bridges constructed from concrete which are currently getting face lifts, by resurfacing the concrete with new thin overlays.

On smaller levels, the products which are used for commercial concrete resurfacing projects are also available on a smaller scale, and are readily available and very inexpensive to purchase yourself. If you would like to create your own resurfacing material, you can do so using Portland cement, medium or coarse sand, and some water. You may also add pea gravel for the mix, but generally only if the concrete resurfacing layer is going to be thicker than an inch. If you do not want to mix your own material for resurfacing concrete, you can buy products which are readily available both in bags and buckets.
