Concrete Coatings Orange County

Many times we do not think about the concrete coatings our garages or pay much attention to the appearance of concrete coatings. They are merely a place to park the cars and store the extra boxes of unwanted birthday girls, or the Welcome to Orange County gift baskets that were waiting on the concrete coatings that we call porches. However, like any other room in your house your concrete garage floor needs to receive minor maintenance and general upkeep as well, just as any other concrete surface, with or without a coating. Due to the use it gets, combined with the added stress of water, gas and other chemicals that will inevitably be spilled upon your concrete coatings, concrete garage flooring can very easily become badly damaged and the concrete can begin to fall apart after a few years of use. Concrete coatings are one solution to your concrete garage-flooring test. A concrete coating is an application of a layer of sealant and protectant to your concrete garage floor to help it resist staining, moisture problems and helps it maintain its appearance. Installing concrete coatings to your flooring takes a little up-front preparation before beginning.

If you live in the Orange county area, you have access to some of the finest concrete coating specialists in the area, be sure to contact them before taking on the daunting task of DIY concrete coatings. If you do decide to proceed with doing concrete coatings yourself, read through these steps to give yourself an idea what concrete coatings take! First, the most important step in the process of concrete coatings is making sure that the concrete you are going to apply the concrete coating onto is free from moisture, residual paint and definitely does not have a sealer or other finishing applied to it. To test the concrete for moisture, take a sheet of plastic and tape it to a three-foot by three-foot area using concrete masking tape bought at any hardware or DIY store throughout Orange County. Keep it there for around two days and then remove and check for any moisture collecting on the side of the plastic facing the concrete floor. If moisture is present, than a concrete flooring coating may not suitable, as concrete coatings need a dry surface to properly bond with the flooring. If you find that your Orange county concrete garage flooring has this issue, contact a concrete coatings specialist, they may be able to help and advise you on what options are available for your concrete garage floor.

Next, test to make sure the concrete flooring does not have a sealant currently applied to it. This test will also check for the presence of oils in the concrete as well. Take a cup of water and pour it directly onto the existing flooring. It should soak into the floor in a reasonable amount of time. If it beads or just sits on top of the concrete flooring then the concrete flooring has most likely already been sealed or contains oils. Concrete coatings are not suitable for concrete floors that have already been sealed or contain any type of oil, as it will not bond properly to the concrete.
